Men’s Basketball Team Falls in Close Fight to No. 1 Ranked Raiders
The boys varsity basketball team fell to the Alpharetta Raiders on Saturday.
The Raiders, ranked first in Region 7-AAAAAA, defeated the Bears 69-66 in a thrilling, high scoring battle that came down to the last minute.
The Bears met the Raiders earlier this year where they were routed 92-73.
Despite the loss, the close score has given players reason to believe Saturday’s game may be a glimmer of hope for the Bears.
Junior captain Noah Lucas had 11 points against the Raiders. The Bears’ other captain, sophomore Kamar Robertson, led the team with 21 points.
Five players scored points in double digits.
Lucas said the momentum went “back and forth” throughout the game, and that the ending could have swung either way.
“This is the most exciting team we’ve had in school history,” said Head Varsity Basketball Coach Chip Flemmer.
He was commenting on the fact that this year’s men’s varsity basketball squad has the most wins in a season in school history.
Last night they defeated the North Atlanta Warriors 40-38.
The Bears will compete in the region tournament in February. Each team in the region is given the opportunity to compete and move on to the next stage.
The Bears are ranked third in the region. The team is anticipated to stay at third going into the region tournament, meaning they’ll be on the opposite side of the bracket as Alpharetta.
“They don’t want to play us again,” said Lucas.
