The cafeteria nachos, a popular choice among students, are served every Tuesday and Thursday and garner mixed opinions. Most of the students and staff who eat these nachos either love them or hate them.
Some kids add extra toppings to complete their meal. “I always get the nachos, and my favorite thing to do is put the black beans on top. It all feels very gourmet,” said sophomore Kahlia Washington.
Students aren’t the only ones enjoying the school nachos – many of the cafeteria staff and teachers have opinions as well. Cafeteria staff Cord “CJ” Johnson said, “I think my favorite meal that we serve here is definitely the nachos, because they’re always fresh and so good.”
In fact, the nachos are not just loved by cafeteria staff.
Cafeteria Manager Erin Keahey said, “I really love our nachos here and I think that they are one of the best lunches that the school offers.”
On the other hand, sophomore Narmeen Khan said, “I hate the school nachos. They don’t taste good to me, and I get super grossed out whenever the meat mixes with the fake cheese.”
While the nacho cheese is real, the meat was more questionable. Last school year, the “beef” topping on the nachos was chicken.
While it sounds like this might cause people to stay away from the nachos, many students have noticed a vast improvement from last year, because the meat is real beef this year.
“Yeah, the meat wasn’t actually beef last year, but I would always put the salsa and jalapeños on it and it made it so much better,” said Johnson.
While the beef was disguised as chicken, this did not affect students all that much.
“I kind of figured that the meat wasn’t actually beef, but it tasted pretty much the same to me anyways,” said Washington.
Overall, there are varying opinions on the school nachos, with some more positive than others.
