While there are many important roles to play in the school, the ones in the cafeteria are extremely overlooked.
School lunch is a crucial part of many students’ days. The cafeteria offers many different lunch options, and every student has a different preference.
“Lunch is my favorite part of the day because I get to see all my friends and eat my favorite school lunch, which is the nachos, even though it’s only available on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” said sophomore Parker Pruett.
The nachos seem to be a school favorite, because cafeteria staffer Cord “CJ” Johnson said the nachos served were his favorite lunch option, as well.
Along with the meals, the people who serve the food and work the registers also play a major part of the lunch experience.
“Interacting with the students is my favorite part of the job, and it really makes my day when I get to have conversations with them and really get to know who they are as individuals,” said Johnson.
Also, Cafeteria Manager Erin Keahey said, “I like dealing with the students. Y’all are really interesting to talk to and y’all have a lot of new ideas and it’s really kind of cool.”
While the staff’s interaction with the students makes their day, it also makes the days of the students they talk to.
“I love that when I’m buying my lunch, CJ gives me fist-bumps and talks to me,” said junior Jason Greer.
Students say that the lunch experience is great because of the hard work done by both lunch staff and custodians.
The lunchroom at the school is large, as there are inside and outside eating areas to help maintain and clean up.
To help keep the cafeteria clean as lunch goes on, some custodians walk around with trash cans to ensure that students throw all their trash away instead of leaving it on the table or the ground.
“I think our cafeteria is really clean and the custodians are super helpful in making sure that people clean up after themselves,” said Greer.
Custodians and lunch staff both work hard to ensure a smooth lunch experience for all students, even though it can be an exhausting task.
Lunch is a part of the day where students get to socialize and eat with their friends, which is why it is so important to recognize those who make lunch enjoyable for everyone.
