Senior and Freshman Wrestlers Both Clinch First at the State Tournament

Cambridge Wrestlers senior Will Britain and freshman Gavin Kane won GHSA 6A Individual State Championships on February 10th and 11th.

Britain won in the 160-pound division, and Kane won in the 145-pound division.

“It’s a feeling I honestly can’t describe. I put so much into this season and it feels so rewarding to hold the state champion title,” said Kane.

Although Kane had an injury through a portion of the season, he remained undefeated for the matches in which he competed.

Britain has been a runner-up for the past two years at state, but this year was his year.

“Good things take time, and this one was definitely worth the wait,” said Britain.

Britain and Kane stood tall on the podium accepting their first-place prizes.

Britain started his match with a head start over his opponent at Macon Centerplex and ended with a strong win.

Coach St. James expressed nothing but pride for his state champions.

Since Britain will be graduating this year, Kane is expected to be the new face of Cambridge wrestling.

“I’m already waiting to start the next season,” said Kane. “It’s going to be great, hopefully, our team gets better each year.”
