“March Madness”: How Bears are Reacting to All of the Craziness
March 30, 2018
The madness has not disappointed.
March Madness has always had College Basketball fans buzzing since its inception, but this year has been the craziest on record.
Cinderella stories were a handful in this year’s tournament, as multiple lower-seeded teams made some deep runs into the tournament.
The craziest moment was perhaps the sixteenth-seeded UMBC Retrievers defeating the number-one seeded Virginia Cavaliers, which marked the first 16-seed over one-seed upset in the history of the tournament.
“I think it was one of the biggest upsets in the history of sports,” said freshman Kyle Romano. “I couldn’t believe it when I saw it happen and being able to see it live was crazy.”
As the tournament progressed into its final weeks with the dust finally settling in, a field that once consisted of 64 teams has officially been trimmed down to four, as of last Sunday.
This Saturday, Loyola, Michigan Villanova and Kansas will battle it out in San Antonio for the right to call themselves national champions.
Students all around Cambridge are excited to watch the final four play out and have their own opinions and predictions on who they think will be crowned champions.
Despite Villanova being labeled the favorite by many experts and analysts, Michigan has been a popular pick among students at Cambridge.
“Michigan is going to beat Loyola, Villanova will beat Kansas, and Michigan will beat Villanova 83-77 in the championship game,” said freshman Nnamdi Nwajide.
Danny Mohseni, a freshman, also believes Michigan will win the tournament.
“I’ve got Michigan winning the whole thing. They just seem like they have the pieces to win it all,” said Mohseni.
Other students are rooting for the underdogs.
“The way things have gone in this tournament, anything can happen. Loyola Chicago has come this far as the underdog and they’re going to finish their business and win the whole tournament,” said freshman Will Hart.
The two teams that win this Saturday will then face each other in the Alamodome on Monday in the final game of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
